Success means different things to different people. It could be living the life you’ve always dreamed of, hitting a milestone in your career, or being able to make a difference in the world. No one else can determine how you measure up or what constitutes a successful life for you. It’s all up to you.
For Austin Cahoon, founder of a sports betting consulting firm, when asked what success means to him, his response was, “to be determined, I suppose. I am still working towards attaining success, and it’s something that I hear associated with certain things I’ve accomplished. Still, I don’t know the exact answer. I feel like if I tell myself that I have succeeded, I won’t continue to push the limits of what is still possible in my lifetime.”
Cahoon went further to say that financial freedom isn’t something he has achieved yet. This is because, in his opinion, it means one has the freedom to be in a place with the people they love and be able to afford the things that make them happy without worrying about finances. With his current level of achievement, anyone would tag Cahoon as successful. For one who has hit rock bottom before as an entrepreneur and rose up to the top again, one wouldn’t expect such a response from him.
After finishing high school, Cahoon started his career in the oil industry. The business lasted five years before he encountered misfortune, and the company packed up. Cahoon later discovered sports betting after deciding to start life over again in an area he was passionate about — sports. Cahoon quickly learned that he and many others were losing money because they were betting without proper knowledge. Accordingly, Cahoon felt obligated to study the data and statistical aspects of sports betting. Because of this, he began putting together methods to make money through sports betting.
Cahoon admits that he had to overcome obstacles on the way to where he is now. His initial $500 investment quickly ballooned into tens of thousands of dollars, becoming a stable source of revenue. For some reason, during that period, he decided to relocate to Las Vegas. There, Cahoon studied the benefits of sports betting. He won a fortune over time and used it to make additional acquisitions in the stock market, cryptocurrency, and real estate. In addition, his sporting successes inspired him to devise a strategy to assist others in growing their financial standing through investment.
According to Cahoon, his biggest obstacle in launching his consulting business was actually getting started. He said, “starting a business requires taking chances and leaving your comfort zone. It will be met with skepticism and criticism. It’s never easy to put in the initial effort required to see your ideas through to actualization. Past that, it’s a roller coaster of ups and downs, successes and failures, and just figuring out how to keep going by applying what you’ve learned. It is difficult to continue believing in yourself, but with time and consistency, your plans will materialize.”
In business, Austin Cahoon thinks fear is a good sign. It means you’re challenging yourself intellectually and venturing out of your comfort zone, both of which are essential to business success. He considers fear to be a powerful motivator. He recommends a positive outlook for those who want to start a business and be successful. “Don’t let doubt or distractions derail your progress toward your goal. If you want to get anywhere in life, you have to be willing to take some chances and grow from your mistakes,” he buttressed.
