Drake’s New Album Honestly, Nevermind: Listen Now

Drake’s follow-up to last year’s Certified Lover Boy has been released. Honestly, Nevermind is the title. Drake, longtime collaborator Noah “40” Shebib, Drake’s manager Oliver El-Khatib, Noel Cadastre, and Black Coffee executive produced the new album, which has 14 tracks. The album’s lone featured artist is 21 Savage, who appears on the last track, “Jimmy Cooks.” Listen to the whole album down below.

Honestly, Black Coffee, Gordo, Alex Lustig (who also plays keys on “Calling My Name”), and Beau Nox (who plays guitar on “Overdrive” and vocals on “Down Hill”) all contribute heavily to Nevermind’s production. Mukengerwa “Tresor” Riziki, a Congolese musician, appears as a “additional vocalist” on “Currents,” “Down Hill,” and “Tie That Binds.” Shebib, Luca Pretolesi, and Noel Cadastre engineered the album.

Yesterday evening, the rapper unveiled his new album on Instagram (June 16). “7th studio album ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ available at midnight,” the message simply said. He followed up with another post presenting the tracklist. Drake debuted the new album on his new SiriusXM Sound 42 programme Table for One early Friday morning.

“I allow my humility turn to numbness at times, letting time pass knowing I have the endurance to catch it another time,” Drake said on his new album’s Apple Music website. “I work with every breath in my body because it is the labour, not the air, that keeps me alive.” That’s some really bad crap, but it’s trash my perfectionist mind doesn’t mind since no one knows what’s on my mind when I go to bed at 9 p.m. and get up at 5 a.m.—unless I express it in rhyme.”

Drake

He continued:

I can’t remember the last time someone put they phone down, looked me in the eyes and asked my current insight on the times. But I remember every single time someone shined a light in my eyes. I purposely try to forget what went on between some ppl and I because I know I’m not a forgiving guy even when I try.

My urge for revenge wins the game against my good guy inside every single fckn time. I got plans I can’t talk about with more than like 4 guys because the last time I shared em with someone on the outside…well that’s another story for another night.

I was tryna get thru that statement to get to saying I’m not @ a time in my life where pats on the shoulder help get me by. I’ll take loyalty over an oh my & emoji fire.

I know if it was a dark night where all the odds were against my side & my skill went to whoever took my life they’d done me off with a big smile & maybe evn post it for some likes. I know everyone that tells me they love me doesn’t love me all the time especially when im doing better than alright & they have to watch it from whatever point they at in their life

I got here being realistic.

I didn’t get here being blind.

I know whats what and especially what and who is by my side

Honestly…Nevermind.

Dedicated to our brother V.

In September 2021, Drake released Certified Lover Boy, his sixth studio album by himself. After Drake had surgery for a knee injury he acquired in the autumn of 2020, it was originally expected to arrive in January of that year. The LP quickly overtook Kanye West’s Donda with what was at the time the largest launch week of 2021 when it eventually came many months later. It also rocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 list. Drake uploaded the music videos for “Way 2 Sexy” and “Knife Talk” after the album’s release.

Regular collaborator Dave Meyers, who directed Drake’s silly “Way 2 Sexy” video, filmed the rapper portraying a variety of “sexy” tropes. In the video, Drake played a variety of characters, including an action hero, a romance story protagonist, a cartoon, an elderly man at the beach, a gym video teacher, and a perfume representative. Kawhi Leonard of the Toronto Raptors, Future, and Young Thug were all featured in the video.

The music video for Drake’s song “Knife Talk” was a little more straightforward; it was directed by Pablo Rochat and featured 21 Savage, Project Pat, and Drake in grainy security camera footage. All of the featured MCs were seen brandishing big kitchen knives.

The Recording Academy nominated Drake in November 2021 for the 2022 Grammy Awards’ Best Rap Album (for Certified Lover Boy) and Best Rap Performance (for “Way 2 Sexy”). Drake quickly withdrew from the award-related controversy. Four-time Grammy winner Drake has already criticised the academy.

Kanye West and Drake formally ended their long-running feud at the same moment. The two men appeared in a photo together alongside J Prince; its caption was simply the dove of peace emoji. A few days later, the rappers revealed plans for the one-time “Free Larry Hoover” fundraiser event. The concert was broadcast live on Amazon on December 9 from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California.

Drake contributed on Future’s most recent album, I Never Liked You, which was released in April, after slowing down his Certified Lover Boy rollout. Together with Tems, Drake collaborated to the songs “Wait for U” and “I’m on One.” Drake also starred in the music video for the former, which took place in medieval times (the historic period, not the restaurant).

Certified Lover Boy marked the full-length follow-up to 2018’s Scorpion. Drake released his 2019 collection Care Package between the two LPs, as well as Dark Lane Demo recordings in 2020.
